My Two Ah Ha's

1. My first Ah Ha comes from the reading, "Technologies of the Third Mediamorphosis". "Some early predictions, particularly of television were remarkably prescient...cartoons and illustrations published as early as 1879 show families sitting in their living rooms watching 'live' broadcast news reports from faraway places and interacting with other people via the equivalent of a modern-video conferencing system" (Fidler 94). I found this interesting because video conferencing never really became as popular as predicted.

2. My second Ah Ha comes from the Bush reading. "One cannot hope thus to equal the speed and flexibility with which the mind follows an associative trail, but it should be possible to beat the mind decisively in regard to the permanence and clarity of the items resurrected from storage" (Bush 6). I found this interesting because, although Bush believed the "memex" would be very powerful, he had no idea how quickly computer technology would develop and ultimately how powerful computers would become.

I think the "memex" in theory is pretty similar to our personal computer of today. Bush was right on as far as the "memex" or computer storing large amounts of information and the fact that it might sit on a desk. The thing that Bush did not realize is that as our knowledge of technology keeps increasing, smaller is better. New advances in technology are making everything smaller and more mobile. The idea of the "memex" was a big desk like machine, where almost all people today carry a little computer in their pocket whether it is a cell phone or I-Pod.

I think the main changes to the internet in 2045 will be that it is much more accessible to a large amount of people, because of it's decrease in cost. Although we can hardly imagine not having the internet, there are still many places in the world where most people do not have access to it. I also think the internet will be a lot more regulated by the Government. I still can not decide if I think the internet will be filled with a lot more junk which will make it harder to navigate through, or if by then it will be very precise and they will find a way to get rid of all the stuff we do not need. However, I think with every media advertising becomes too valuable not to take advantage of, so I imagine%

I agree with the comments made about our technology becoming increasingly more compact. It has been interesting to see a new medium or product of technology put on the market for consumers and soon after, a smaller, better, possibly more colorful version is available. It at times, seems that some of these technologies, in efforts to be made so conveinant, compact and mobile, are becoming a sort of inconveinance because they are easier to lose and are more prone to theft.
I also agree that the internet will become more widespread and accessible to more consumers as cost decreases. However, I feel by 2045 the computer as we know it today will have reached far beyond. I feel that computers will become less hands-on and more mobile and with each new advance in technology comes an initial rise in costs and then ultimately, a stabilization.
